These latest pieces focus on a mix of textures as well as bringing in elements of the three-dimensional. The second and third pieces above incorporate pleats, an avenue I want to explore further (and maybe some draping too). I'm really happy with the first and second works. The first one, a needed change from the purely horizontal compositions, brought up the idea of framing again. Erica had a great idea - I might want to use fabric as frames for all the work, or even fabric-covered frames...just a thought on an alternate presentation.

The first one with the fabric frame looks really great. I'm interested to see where your exploration with draping takes you. Do you see yourself veering towards more unsaturated color palettes?
ReplyDeletei love the first piece here and am eager to see the others finished. i don't know about erica's idea on framing. you should try one of them that is really different from this one and lets see how it works. i like the pleating and vote for keeping things simple and minimal. When you have about 5 pieces that are totally finished we should try them in different frames and without frames on a larger white wall and see how they look.

I really love the subtle color palette you have going on in these pieces. Your progress looks great!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering now that you are starting to think about presentation and framing... have you thought about what kind of wall/space you want to display the pieces? Once you have the frames chosen, you could think about wall colors that might really enhance the palette you have in the pieces.
I really love these new pieces. I think using texture is a great step in the right direction. I think my favorite texture is the lace you are using in the first and last composition. I really like how delicate the lace is and the layering it creates. I also like the sheer fabric in the third piece. I know it seems far in the future, but I think you need to think about the lighting you will use with your pieces. Especially because you are getting more three-dimensional, lighting will play a key part in the mood of your piece. I think it could be interesting to create dramatic shadows. Just and idea...
